Powers of Heaven

Gooood morning everyone!  Well kind of, the morning is halfway over!

This week has been HOT.  The humidity has been suffocating, it's kinda fun to go outside and see how long it takes to get sticky. The answer: Not that long!

We did service on Tuesday and met an inactive member named Austin!  He has been inactive for about 15-20 years so we got his number and have been teaching him!! He told us we couldn't pass him to elders because "they don't have pretty faces" we laughed at that. We also got him to go to church with us which is fantastic!

Wednesday we had zone conference and everyone got to meet the Crankshaws!  It was so fun! We felt the spirit strongly and it was incredible to hear from them and their sons. It was a good time, I also got to see Sister Eller again and a few other friends.  It was weird knowing that that would be my last time seeing some of them.

Thursday we had a miracle.  I messaged a woman named Beverly on Facebook and she responded quickly with her phone number saying she would love to talk about God, prayer, or anything else! We called her a few minutes later and now we are teaching her!! I'm soo excited, she is amazing!
We went to Christ's House and this time it wasn't too bad.  We were pretty nervous because the woman in charge of Christ's House was not nice at all the last time I was there but she has softened a lot so it was actually really fun to help out! On the way back home, we stopped and got gas and street contacted a really cute family we are hoping to start teaching this week!

Okay Friday is my favorite day.  We got to go help out at a place called Ronald McDonald!! For those who don't know what this is, it is a place that parents and children can stay when they have chronic illnesses or lengthy hospital visits and they don't have anywhere to stay.  It was really fun to help organize and decorate the rooms and we worked with other sisters so Sister Ray and I did some splits so we could visits with the other sisters.  It was a TON of fun and we are hoping to go back!
We also had exchanges that night which was really fun.  We can eat together now so Sister Ray and I made dinner for Sister Batten and Sister Dean, then Sister Batten and I stayed here!  I taught her how to tract and street contact and it went really well!
Okay Saturday might be my favorite too, it's a pretty close tie. Sister Ray worked really hard in her last area to put 3 friends on date and so we got to attend their baptisms on Saturday!  It was so fun!! They asked me to play the piano and I was really nervous because I had practiced a few of the songs for about an hour on Thursday and lets just say that 18 months of inconsistent practice does NOT make you good at sight reading.  In fact, it makes you terrible. I was not looking forward to playing at these baptisms.  But Saturday morning I prayed really hard and told the Lord that I was faithful in keeping my covenants and I needed help with the songs I had to play.  We got to the baptism early so I could practice a little bit and guess. what.  Not only could I play them near perfectly, but I was able to sight read a couple other songs on the spot!! D&C 121:36 says "That the rights of the priesthood are inseparably connected with the powers of heaven, and that the powers of heaven cannot be controlled nor handled only upon the principles of righteousness."  I know that when we are faithful in keeping our covenants we have our prayers answered, and I know that heaven is here to help us.  Heaven doesn't just consist of God and Jesus Christ.  There are thousands of spirits there ready to help when we pray and I know that Heaven helped me with those songs.

I have one more experience to share with you about the powers of Heaven then that sums up my week!  Sister Ray and I have been working really hard to find progressing friends this week, progressing means they meet with us 1-2 times a week, and keep commitments.  Most of our friends have not been doing one or the other and so we have been working really hard to find new friends to teach.  Yesterday was discouraging because we had only found one new friend to teach this week so we got on our knees and told Heavenly Father that we knew He had people out there for us to teach and that we knew He had spent years preparing them.  We then prayed for people to come to mind.  Just before we called the people who came to mind, we prayed again and told Heavenly Father that we were faithful in our covenants and that we wanted this person to be in a place that they could pick up the phone.  They picked up the phone after 3 rings, we taught them the gospel and they are meeting with us again tonight.  We repeated this process for a few more phone calls and the same thing happened.  I am a personal witness to the power of prayer and the power of asking for Heavens help.  I know that when we pray, God can start putting things in place for us to be successful.
