Tis the Season

Hello all!! It has started to get so cold here! Cold enough we stay instead to exercise instead of going for a run outside now. Humidity is not my friend!

This week has been great!  We had a mission wide zone conference on Tuesday which was amazing! We have been asked to change our missionary work a lot and instead of teaching the lessons ourselves and having members bear testimony, we are now having members teach part of the lesson with us! It has been amazing!! We implemented that this week and our ward members are phenomenal! I am so excited about this because it will help members feel more comfortable sharing the gospel with their friends!

Our zone leaders were determined to make the same cheesecake we had made for Thanksgiving but they don't really know how to read a recipe so we made the cheesecake again and took pictures of our step-by-step process so they could make it themselves!  It took us two hours to make the cheesecake and take photos then edit the photos. But 42 pictures later, we were done and sent them off to the zone leaders! They actually did a pretty good job. We were impressed!
Thursday morning we got an email saying that the missionary department had decided that it was time for us to go back to the standard of calling home once a week instead of twice. I'm fine with it, it doesn't really bother me and once a week is still better than twice a year!

We got Christmas PJ'S from Walmart and took a bunch of pictures and that was a ton of fun! We love goofing off together and after 9pm we tend to get pretty silly!
We got to do service at House of Mercy and work in the food pantry. It was so much fun! It's kind of funny because we stand for 3 hours there and by the time we are done, we all are pretty sore because we now work from the couch, desk, or kitchen table all day long!
We called a man named Mike who told us that he was "Jesus'd out" and that our time was better spent on someone who wasn't as devout as them.  He then told us that he had already said The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints that day. We were a little surprised and I guess what had happened is that he works for a construction company repairing or building decks. He had gone to a house that day and proceeded to introduce himself saying "Hi I'm Mike from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints!"  We laughed pretty hard and told him it was meant to be.  Then he explained that there were some things he didn't agree with that we taught.  We asked for referrals and he gave us his son's number because "My son is an idiot and could use something in his life."  We thought that was pretty funny so we called his son.  We got hung up on but that was okay, it was a good night!
On Saturday we got to go serve at a clothing drive! It was a lot of fun and we got to write numbers on bags and help organize clothes.  Yay for service!

Sunday I had a neat experience. We have been working really hard to get Rose and Ronnie to attend church over zoom but they haven't wanted to join because they have a different service. This Sunday was fast Sunday and I felt prompted to promise her that all the testimonies would be about the Savior.  The last 3 or 4 fast Sundays have been more people bearing testimony about scriptures, family, kindness and things like that.  So things that have to do with Christ but not directly.  I was a little nervous but I texted them and told them that all the testimonies would be about the Savior and that I knew they would love it.  We got to church and every single testimony was directly about the Savior and even the few children who got up bore their testimony about the Savior and it was amazing! We also had a really good lesson with them that night.  They are feeling a little conflicted between their current religion and ours but I know they will be able to find peace!

Last thing then I'm done. Today we had our district activity, we tried to make gingerbread houses. I say try because our hands got so cold we couldn't really make them move and the icing froze. So we ditched it and went behind a little shack and sat on the ground and talked for an hour and a half then left.  You know we are all deprived of social interactions when we are willing to freeze so much we can hardly move just to talk to other missionaries!
I love you all and I'm so excited to be a missionary right now!
We have a zone leader who thinks he's so cool when he puts his hands in his hair so we had to copy!
