Down the hatch, or should I say shaft?

D.C. From Across the River

Hello everyone! I am sure you must be wondering at the title so I will skip to Saturday and explain.  Remember that I usually do some kind of crazy thing usually once every 5-6 weeks.  I don't know why it happens, it just does.   I suppose God is making sure I don't get bored.   So Saturday.  We decided to go out to eat for dinner and we usually take the elevator to get to our car because the parking garage is 5 floors below and who wants to go down that many stairs? So as we were walking into the elevator I heard a little ping, looked down and saw my phone slip between the cracks of the elevator and the hallway floor.  I am not usually a dramatic person but I did gasp when I saw my phone disappear and Sister Boll gasped with me when she realized what I had just done. I kept waiting to hear it hit the ground but it fell for quite some time which makes sense since we are 5 floors above the ground! Now normally this wouldn't be a  problem, but I have, or had, the SIM card and Sister Boll did not have a SIM card.  So we ran out of the elevator and dashed down 3 floors to the lobby and realized we just missed the office closing by 20 minutes and we had no phone to call the number on the door.  We found a nice man who let us borrow his phone and the office's emergency number did not answer.  So we tried to call our mission president's wife.  No answer, then we tried the mission office couples, no answer either! I then remembered that we lived on the same floor as one of the building managers but I didn't know where he lived.  So we called Sister Lungren and explained our situation.  She told us it was 3 doors down on the right or the first door before or after the emergency doors.  So we got to go tracting and play find David.  No luck.  We knocked on about 4 doors then gave up because we didn't want to scare anyone. So we went back downstairs to see if we could borrow another phone but Sister Boll ending up have wifi downstairs so we video-called Sister Lungren and had her call the managed, David.  He wasn't home but was going to be there in 10 minutes and told us to meet him in the lobby and he would call the elevator company to see if they could come get my phone.  So we waited until he came.  He told us they couldn't come get my phone but they could come Monday.  So we thanked him then decided to see if we could get in touch with the office to see if they can do anything.  We still had no way to call anyone so we put all of the AP's in group message over messenger (which messenger is NOT allowed in our mission but we figured this was an emergency) and they got ahold of the mission office who told us to meet them at 7pm in Burke so we could get a temporary SIM card.  This all started at about 5:20pm and we got back to our apartment at 8:30pm.  So it's been a fun ride! We got a call today that said to have a technician come out to get my phone it would be $500 so my phone will be staying in the elevator shaft! I'm not very sad because I still have access to all my pictures and videos from my mission so that's a blessing!

The rest of this week was pretty uneventful.  Sister Boll got to see Arlington Cemetery for the first time this week and loved it!!  We enjoy serving there.
Most of our friends cancelled on our lessons this week sadly so I don't have any news there.

Sister Boll is reassigned from the Japan mission and one of our zone leaders also had a companion who was reassigned from Japan.  We had a couple calls with him the past few days and he accidentally told us he loves us in Japanese twice!  We haven't let him live that down and I don't think we will let it go for a while!

Sunday was really busy as usual but it was also exciting! I have an uncle who came to DC for work and my mom got permission for me to see him briefly Sunday night!!  It was so fun being able to see him and talk again!! I haven't seen him for a couple years so that made it extra special!
I think that is all that I remember right now, I love you all!
